Some pieces were brought in by the collector/potter Lorraine Gilroy - Lorraine's work was exhibited in the Midlands Potter's Association Show last month April 2010
These pieces included cups and Saucers made jointly by Rie and Hans Caper
I am an Worcester "lad", having lived in Lowesmoor, Dines Green and attended Rainbow Hill, St.Johns & Chrissies schools. Came out to OZ in 1956. Love watching Henry in action. He reminds me of my late uncle - Eric Williams, Head Master at Cherry Orchard. Antiques is a magic show with Henry as the magician. I wonder if Henry or others remember Peter & Rita Daniels who now live at Kyneton in Victoria. I believe they both worked at the 'Porcelain Works. Their products are pure 'Worcester style -google Wattle Ceramics for info. I only have a handful of 'Worc. Porcelain items but am very proud of them all. My one cousin lives in Willowslea Rd,Bevere and I seem to remember a pub set in church grounds at Claines

ReplyDeleteYes - The Mug House in the Church yard still exists. Only five minutes from the Gallery also Willowslea Rd even nearer.

ReplyDeletelovely to see Henry Sandon examining the Lucie Rie pots at Bevere; a thrill for me to get them together! I also liked the fact that Henry was honest enough to note that he did not care for the jug form, preferring other pieces, as it seemed too heavy in comparison. In replying to a question from Stuart, Henry suggested that sometimes potters (in this case, Lucie Rie and Hans Coper in studio) experimented with different forms and shapes, and that this may be the reason why the jug was different in its style. Thanks for the photographs; a great momento of the afternoon
