This month Stuart Dickens, our ceramic curator has chosen 'Water Disk' by Peter Hayes.
The gallery was delighted to have such a great selection of Peter Hayes’ work in our last exhibition. It was not difficult to choose one of his pieces as the Pot of the Month. Peter is one of the iconic figures of studio ceramics. Many will have seen his dramatic raku demonstrations at the ceramic fairs and some will have had the privilege of seeing his huge bronze in the Jerwood Sculpture Trail at Ragley Hall. He is immensely creative and although much of his work is instantly recognisable there will always be an element of surprise that represents some new creative avenue.
The water feature is pure Hayes. It is dramatic in scale and wonderfully crafted. His work is made close to the water and the mix of water and his riven surfaces are such natural partners. This work is the ultimate focal point, to use the garden designer’s jargon, and would grace almost any scale of garden
